Graduation Dress Guidelines

It is our desire that graduation from the Colorado Springs Christian Middle School will be a very special and blessed
occasion. The following guidelines should be helpful in making that occasion even more memorable.

The boys will be expected to wear dress shirts, ties, slacks, or suits and dress shoes. Banded collar dress shirts are
acceptable. No tennis shoes or casual clothing, please.

It is anticipated that girls will wear a special occasion dress or suit. A “Sunday dress” is quite appropriate. No
strapless, bare-shoulder, or tight-fitting dresses will be allowed. Straps must be a minimum of 1 inch wide. The
skirt or dress length and any slits that may be a part of the dress or skirt should be modest and should be knee
length or longer. Ladies, if you have any questions about the appropriateness of the dress, please bring your dress
in to be checked by a female staff member. Please contact Mr. Butler 535-8968 if you have questions concerning any of this information.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

6th GRADE CAMP—Parents, you should receive a letter from your student about Camp Id-Ra-Ha-Je soon! Students will be going to the outdoor education camp on May 19-21. This is a highlight of the 6th grade year. Students learn lots of new skills, good ways to improve their interactions with one another, spiritual lessons taught through nature, and they have a lot of fun! Select seniors go with the staff and kids to camp and are always wonderful in the impact they make on the 6th graders. We appreciate the help you give us in driving to and from camp. Thanks to all who have volunteered! Fees for the camp will be billed to your account.
8th GRADE GRADUATION—Graduation is not creeping up on us…it is headed toward us at full tilt! You will be receiving a letter soon with more detailed information about graduation week. At this point, just mark your calendars for May 21st at 7:00 p.m. (Pulpit Rock Church) for the main event. There is a reception afterwards at CSCS for all the family and friends that will be coming with you to the graduation.

SUMMER SCHOOL

Here are a couple of Summer School options. If your son or daughter struggles in either math or grammar, we suggest that you consider putting them in a refresher course for these subjects. We suggest that everyone get involved in the Reading Counts summer program. It is a great way to structure your student’s involvement in reading. They simply read from the list and drop in for a quick test of their reading comprehension during available dates.

SUMMER TUTORING

Need a jump-start on next year, or help with some Math and English concepts you want secured in your learning, or maybe you didn’t do as well as you would have liked on your Math or English Mastery test, then call Donna Fortune at 268-2187 in the CSCS Middle School Student Services Department for private tutoring sessions this summer.

Summer Online Keyboarding Class

If you are a new student entering middle school and have never had a keyboarding class OR if you don’t type as fast or as accurately as you know you could, then this class is for you! This class will only meet three times per session in the middle school computer lab. The remainder of the lessons will be completed at home using a customizable online keyboarding program. The twelve lessons will focus on learning the keys and increasing speed and accuracy. The cost for this class is $50.  More Details

GoodsearchGOOGLE SUBSTITUTE— MAKE EVERY PENNY COUNT!

Do you use Google to search for everything in the world on the internet? If you take a few minutes, you can switch from “Google” to “GoodSearch” and raise a penny for CSCS every time you search. CSCS is registered as a charity with an organization called GoodSearch. You can go to goodsearch.com to learn more. On the GoodSearch site are instructions for installing Good- Search on your toolbar so it’s right there every time you want to do an internet search. Also, you can select Colorado Springs Christian Schools as your designated charity and then just search away. They estimate that every search brings a penny for your charity. Don’t forget to tell your friends and family! When You Search the Internet… Make a Difference for CSCS!

Internet Safety DVD’s

Parents: In our attempt to help you be aware of the dangers of the Internet, we have asked parents of students in grades 7-12 to attend the CSCS Internet Safety Seminar. If you were unable to attend, we now have DVD’s available at each of our library media centers for check out. Many parents signed the Technology Acceptable Use Policy last fall with an understanding that they would watch the video once it was copied. (Be sure to pick up the accompanying handout.) If you do not have a DVD player, you can watch it at your library media center by appointment. Please call the library media centers if you have any questions. Several parents have asked for tools to help monitor Internet activity on their home computers. If you need additional information on these resources, please contact your library media center.
