The Lion of Judah

The 2012 8th grade graduates left a nice present to the school.  Sarah R, Shealyn C., Heather H. and art teacher, Mrs. Havnaer painted a mural on one of the middle school walls.  It is the Lion of Judah.  Printed next to the lion are lyrics from the Newsboys song, "God's Not Dead."  This is a wonderful gift to leave to the future students of CSCS W.P.

Staff changes at CSCS-WP

I am so grateful to the Lord and pleased to announce that He has provided wonderful people to fill out our staff for the remainder of the 2012-13 school year.

Mr. Mike Aragon will be joining our staff as the new Spanish and PE teacher. Mr. Aragon is a fluent Spanish speaker and has served as a youth pastor as well as Spanish-language pastor. In addition, he teaches Spanish 1 at the community college and university levels. He also enjoys coaching children. Mr. Aragon has been shadowing with Mrs. Stockton and is already getting to know our students. He will begin his teaching responsibilities with us on January 7th. Mr. Aragon and his wife have 5 children and live in Colorado Springs.

Mrs. Denise Neal will be returning to CSCS-WP as the teacher’s aide in the combination 2nd/3rd grade classroom. Mrs. Neal is an experienced teacher and is looking forward to getting back into a classroom environment. We are delighted to have her join with Miss Buteyn in the combo class. Mrs. Neal and her husband are the parents of 3 students who have attended CSCS-WP.

Mr. Matthew Winter will be assuming some additional duties around campus. Besides teaching our 4th grade students, Mr. Winter will be serving as our athletic director and facilities manager. We appreciate his willingness to come on board in these additional roles.

6th Grade Knowledge Bowl
6KB_2012_3rd-2CSCS of Woodland Park 6th Grade Knowledge Bowl team did very well in the Tri-County Knowledge Bowl held at Fountain Middle School on Wednesday, April 25. There were twelve schools represented from the three counties. CSCS Main, Manitou, and CSCS-WP were the top three competitors throughout the competition. In the end Manitou took first, CSCS-Main won second, and CSCS-WP came in third. Our team had the highest score in the written round, but they fell behind in two of the oral rounds. All in all it was a great contest and all the students had fun participating.

Race for Education

Race003Our Race for Education day was last Friday, and God was so good to hold off the rain and snow until 3:05 p.m.! The event started with a kickoff presentation on clean athletics from the USADA, who gave us some great bags (complete with pedometers!) Then we started walking - and walking - and running - and walking - for an entire hour. We also had some fun dance breaks led by our "blue-haired Principal." J When we were finished, the whole school had walked/run over 260 miles! It was a wonderful day to remember.

Also, in the 12 weeks of the fundraiser, we have collected over $11,250 for the technology programs at our Woodland Park campus. Once again, we are so overwhelmed by the generous response of our friends, family, and community! Please note that we will automatically be sending thank yous to all donors who sent more than $25.00 to the school. If you want to send any personal notes, you are welcome to request copies of the flyers that came if for your child(ren) from Kimberly Smith.

Woodland Park Art Walk March 16th

28_wP_art_walkThe CSCS Woodland Park Art Walk was held on March 16th in downtown Woodland Park.  28 pieces of Easter art created by our kindergarten through 8th grade students were displayed in seven local businesses within two blocks of the Seven Arrows Art Gallery.   There were refreshments at the art gallery and a fun Easter egg hunt.  Our choir students performed three songs in small groups at three of the businesses.  A few of the Woodland Park High School Madrigals joined each of these teams.

There was also a People's Choice Award, where anyone could vote on their favorite piece of art.  Seventh grader, Hannah P. won this award for her pencil drawing of Jesus with the crown of thorns.  At chapel she was awarded a ribbon and prize for her beautiful drawing.
