Veterans' Day Chapel

2012_Veterans_Day_Brian_SandlinBoth Elementary Chapels on November 7 were great blessings to our students and staff.  Those2012_Veterans_Day_Todd_Scott were our annual Veterans' Day Chapel times.  Lt. Col. Brian Sandlin was our speaker for the Kindergarten-second grade Chapel.  Col. Todd Scott spoke to the third-fifth graders.  Both speakers tailored their talks to the age of their student audience just perfectly.

In addition, parents and other relatives who are active duty or retired military were able to come.  Our goal was to honor them.  In reality, their presence was such an honor and privilege to us as a school.  We also were able to honor those from our school family who are currently deployed and were unable to attend.  We are so grateful for their service!

2012_Veterans_Day_Lee_GreenwoodStudents led us in prayer, salutes to the flags and Bible, and some singing.  Fourth graders led us2012_Veterans_Day_God_Bless_America all in "God Bless America."  They also performed Lee Greenwood's, "I'm Proud to Be an American."  In the older student Chapel, Grant Pierce shared his stirring recitation of "The Gettysburg Address.".

"Thank you" to all of our veterans and active duty parents and families.  It is a blessing to have you so involved at CSCS!

CSCS Elementary

FAMILY MINISTRY NIGHT

March 14, 2013

See times below.

Please RSVP (535-8965) at the Elementary Office for our  Ministry Night, coming up soon!

Families and groups of families will have options to choose from regarding a variety of needed ministry opportunities.

Options will include:

1.  Serve dinner at the Rescue Mission (leave CSCS at 4:30).

2.  Prepare bags of rice or beans for needy local families.  (5:30)

3.  Help a needy family – go shopping for items they need.  The shopping money has been previously donated.

4.  Prepare and deliver dinner to a fire station.

At the conclusion of the evening we will meet in the Art room (6:15 p.m.) for pizza and a brief sharing time.  We will finish in time for families to attend the Middle School Musical, if desired.

RSVP allows us to prepare our neighbors and order pizza.

Can’t come but want to help?  We deliver socks, towels, and other donated items to Crossfire Ministry and The Springs Rescue Mission periodically.  We'd love to deliver your small donations.

"Serving Others for God" by Maddie

This essay is written by Maddie, one of our fourth graders, after a recent school trip to Crossfire Ministries.  The title above and the following words are Maddie's:

"My class went to Crossfire Ministries to help out.  I helped sort toys, stockings, ornaments, and stocking stuffers.  Later I went downstairs and worked in the laundry room.  In the laundry room I filled bans of laundry soap, and third, I helped sort shampoo, soap, body wash, and other things as well.  Fourth I made bags of beans for poor people.  It gave me a great feeling to help those people.  It was fun to help out and it made me feel good to help other people.  I can serve my brothers by helping them with their chores, and help my mom and dad with cleaning up the kitchen.  It taught me I can try to be nice to everyone to serve them as Jesus did."

Thank you, Maddie, for serving and for giving us a glimpse of your perspective and your wonderful heart for others!

See You at the Pole

On most days at CSCS students pray together within their classroom groups and  with their classroom teachers.  SpecialDSC_0159 bonds develop because we get to do that daily.  But on "See You at the Pole" Day, Elementary students get a special treat!

DSC_0154They get to mix with other grade levels and spend time praying with schoolmates from other classes.  They get to pray with teachers other than their own classroom teachers and with Teacher Assistants or Volunteer Parents that they possibly haven't prayed with before.
