Night of Learning
It's a first! About 250 of you attended our first ever Night of Learning. It was a fun evening, designed to promote enjoyment of reading and writing for elementary students. Thanks to all who were able to come.
We started the evening with a hot dog dinner for families. Then teachers led a variety of literacy-based activities for both children and parents. A couple of our workshops were "parent-only" presentations. High school athletes and cheerleaders led one children-only read-aloud time. Everything else was designed for both students and parents to attend.
You could choose from reading a snack cookbook and making your own snacks, poetry writing, "Reading with the Stars" (a read-aloud time with celebrities), storybook Jeopardy, writing "combo" stories in the computer lab, or writing Christmas cards for Operation Christmas Child children. The only bad news was that no one had time to visit every station that night.
We even had Mrs. Casey's grandson there to donate and autograph copies of a book he wrote while he was an elementary
school student. All children were also able to take home another free book of their choice at the end of the evening.
Truly it was a Night of Learning!
Speech Meet Details
The 2012 CSCS All-Campus Speech Meet is Monday, October 22 at our Woodland Park Campus. The opening assembly begins at 1:00 in the worship center and will kick-off this year's Speech Meet. Students will then disperse to various rooms for competition.
Parents are invited and more than welcome to attend. Classroom space is limited but we work hard to get everyone possible in to see the portions of the Speech Meet they come to see. For those parents who cannot attend, a bus is available and family car pools will be used as well.
Students leaving from school will need to leave by noon. If your child is traveling to the Speech Meet and you ordered lunch, we don't expect his/her lunch to be delivered until after your child has left for Woodland Park. Please cancel your lunch order if you had previously ordered lunch for Monday. Students should pack their lunch unless you have other plans for that day.
We're excited to hear and enjoy this year's speeches. It's a special day to celebrate some great work by some great students!
Third Grade Travels
The first half of the school year has been filled with fun activities and great educational experiences for the CSCS third graders! Between classroom work, building new friendships, and fun fieldtrips the children are well on their way to a memorable year! The highlights of the first part of the school year have been the field trips the classes have taken. These adventures are designed by Miss Menke and Mrs. Pearce to help enhance the curriculum and enrich the student’s learning experiences!
Budding Engineers
Kindergartners like to build things. It's also a treat for them to give directions and have someone else carry them out. They are sometimes on the bottom end of the "authority food chain" and it's fun when they get to be "in charge" for a change.
That's what a robot-building experience can provide for you: an opportunity to show off those
upper management skills and your talent for construction at the same time. Kindergartners had a blast gathering materials, making choices about their pieces and parts, and being served in the process. Volunteer moms and teachers are the servants. Kids are the builders.
