March 2013
Spring is on the way, students are excited that the school year is wrapping up, and CSCS-WP is a hopping place.
Dictionary Day was a huge success. Students and staff enjoyed participating in the vocabulary-building day by dressing up and demonstrating their special parts of speech. Words were celebrated and creativity abounded as the entire student body met during chapel to share their featured words.
A true highlight of the school year is our annual Fourth Grade Fathers’ Blessing Day. Students are surprised when they enter the building and are escorted to an unexpected breakfast buffet. The even greater surprise is that their dads are there ready to greet them and sit with them. This year’s Fathers’ Blessing Day afforded each dad or dad representative to speak words of encouragement, admiration, aspiration, and blessing into the lives of their children. It was a great day all the way around. We thank our Superintendent and his wife, Dr. and Mrs. Roland DeRenzo, for rearranging their busy schedules to attend the event.
Two ACSI competitions have been held recently. In February, four WP students (Makiyah, Matthew, Caleb, and Jenna) joined their counterparts from Central Campus in representing CSCS at the District Spelling Bee. In January, qualifying students stayed after school and took the Math by Mail tests which determine eligibility for the Math Olympics. The Math Olympics was hosted by CSCS and held in early March. Daniel, Adele and Kaitlyn strongly represented the WP campus at the event, which included Christian schools from Colorado as well as from Nebraska, New Mexico, and Utah. We are so proud of all of these students and appreciate their talents and hard work in preparing for these competitions.
Kindergarten and 1st grade students enjoyed celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday. They made Oobleck, ate mixed up snacks, and listened to guest readers share favorite Dr. Seuss books. All of this was accomplished while dressing in favorite stripes, socks, and hats.
We look forward to a strong finish to our school year and continue to rejoice at God’s goodness to and His provision for our CSCS-Woodland Park family!
