SCRIP
SCRIP Program
Frequently Asked Questions
SCRIP is a term that means "substitute money". When you purchase SCRIP, you're purchasing certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use SCRIP to purchase everyday expenses like food, gas, clothing, home repair, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you can lower your tuition.
How does SCRIP generate revenue?
CSCS in partnership with The Great Lakes SCRIP Center will make available to your family a variety of restaurants, department stores and other retailers. Because SCRIP is purchased with cash or check up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial rebate to CSCS. CSCS in turn passes on 80% of the rebate directly to your family in the way of a tuition reduction. The remaining 20% is used for administrative costs of the program. SCRIP rebates will be distributed monthly.
Why should I use SCRIP?
The businesses you purchase SCRIP from return to CSCS a rebate from two to fifteen percent or more. SCRIP is a popular revenue source because families don't have to sell anything. Simply plan ahead and make normal household purchases you would make anyway. Restaurant, clothing, toys, home improvement, even gasoline can be purchased with SCRIP. The Great Lakes SCRIP Center also offers an online solution www.shopwithscrip.com for participating retailers. Orders can be placed through the school by picking up forms in the Business Office.
How does this work?
For example, let's say you spend:
- $35 /week on gasoline = $140 per month
- $50 /month to dine out
- $40 /month to go to the movies
- $30 /month to rent movies
- Total: $260 per month = $3,120 per year. Using a conservative estimate of a 5% rebate (range is two to fifteen percent or more); you already have the potential to lower your tuition by at least $156!
- On average, families who have participated in this program have saved approximately $200 on their tuition

CSCS families can create a personal account using their e-mail address and then select CSCS as their non-profit option by using our online code LA191565832L.
