Dear Parents,

Colorado Springs Christian Schools (CSCS) is a special place for students. Our mission is to provide an excellent education from a Christ-centered and biblical perspective. Along with a strong academic program, young people are encouraged to explore the fine arts and athletic programs, and to develop strong character and values with the focus on meaningful lifelong service.

As we look forward to our 40th year of partnering with Christian families in the education of their children, we are again reminded about the awesome responsibility that we share in raising the next generation of Christian leaders. We do not take it lightly that parents choose CSCS to be that partner. Rather, we count it a privilege to serve them in this endeavor.

Our professional staff employs teaching methods that motivate students and are appropriate for different learning styles. Students utilize current technology and learn in an environment that provides academic, emotional, and spiritual support needed for intellectual growth.

Central to our mission are the Core Values.  Central to the mission of CSCS are our CORE VALUES and SCHOOL-WIDE LEARNING OUTCOMES. We acknowledge that it is the hand of God that has continued to direct and bless Colorado Springs Christian Schools for the past 39 years.

Mission Statement

CSCS exists to provide an excellent education from a Christ-centered, biblical perspective for lifelong service.

Colorado Springs Christian Schools is a Christian school dedicated to providing an excellent academic, physical, emotional, and spiritual environment for the education of students leading to a life that honors God. The school exists to train the mind, develop the moral character, enrich the spiritual lives, and perpetuate growth of Christian ideals in all who come within the sphere of its influence. CSCS stands as a witness for Jesus Christ modeled by administration, faculty, parents, and students.

Through a rich offering of academic, spiritual, artistic, and athletic programs, CSCS provides an opportunity for each student to reach his or her maximum spiritual, intellectual, social, and ethical potential. CSCS stresses the highest excellence and proficiency in academic education with a goal of developing, within each student, mastery of all the basics of learning while establishing thinking and clear communication skills. Operating as a Christian community, CSCS emphasizes understanding and responsiveness to the student needs and capabilities from a Christ-centered, biblical perspective. CSCS serves as a training ground for the development of healthy Christian relationships across race, ethnic and gender lines.

CSCS seeks to develop the whole person with the knowledge and skills to embrace a lifetime of personal fulfillment, Christian service, and contribution to society. The competencies to act ethically, to care for and serve others, and to practice Christian stewardship of human and natural resources are integrated into the fabric of all CSCS programs. Programs and activities help students explore their value and role in society as well as the importance of vocation and service in their lives. Students will be equipped to pursue the post-secondary education of their choosing, preparing them to be knowledgeable Christian participants in our nation and the world.

CSCS, in an effort to reflect the community, strives to maintain a student body that represents social, economic, ethnic and academic diversity. Race, color, national and ethnic origin shall never be a barrier to admission at CSCS.

  Doctrinal Statement 

Doctrinal Statement

  1. We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired by God and inerrant; there are no contradictions, no historical inaccuracies, and no false scientific information in the original manuscripts (II Timothy 3:16). We believe that the Old and New Testaments not only contain the Word of God, but are the Word of God in their entirety, and are the final authority in all subjects on which they speak (II Peter 1:21).
  2. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:18-19; Mark 12:29; John 1:14; Acts 5:3-4).
  3. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary (Matthew 1:20-23), and is true God and true Man (John 1:1,14).
  4. We believe that man was created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26), from dust, as a perfectly created individual named Adam, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is separation from God (Genesis 2:17; 3:6; Romans 5:12); that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and, in the case of those who reach moral responsibility, become sinners in thought, word, and deed (Romans 3:10-23).
  5. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins and for the sins of the whole world (I John 2:2), was buried and bodily rose from the dead according to the Scriptures (I Corinthians 15:1-4). We believe that He died as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified by grace on the basis of His shed blood (John 3:16; Titus 3:5). We believe that those so justified are eternally preserved (e.g. the eternally secure position of the believer in Christ, as opposed to the concept that a believer in Christ could ever lose his salvation) through the present ministries of our risen, ascended, glorified Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit (John 10:27-29; Hebrews 7:25).
  6. We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of and indwelt by the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God (John 3:3; 14:16, 17). We believe that regenerate man must walk in dependence upon the Holy Spirit in order to please God (Galatians 5:16).
  7. We believe in "that blessed hope ", the personal and imminent return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (John 14:1-3; I Thessalonians 4:13-18).
  8. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the just and the everlasting punishment of the unjust (e.g. there is no second chance in hell or the lake of fire for a restoration or universalism in salvation). A person 's eternal destiny is set when they die with no hope of a second chance of salvation (I Corinthians 15:51, 52; Revelation 20:11-15).
  9. We believe that the Church, composed of all those who truly believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior, is the Body and Bride of Christ. We believe that Christ is the Head of the Body, the Church (Ephesians 1:22, 23); that all believers are baptized into the Body of Christ by the Holy Spirit, and thus having become members of one another, we are responsible to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (I Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 4:3).

A personal discovery of God's truth
We believe that God is absolute truth and is the final authority in all matters of life. We believe in the complete sovereignty of God and that the word of God is the standard for all decisions. We strive to integrate biblical truth and the character of God into all education at CSCS. We believe that each individual, being created in the image of God, is of supreme worth and is created for the purpose of glorifying God. We value individual giftedness and integrity in all relationships as we demonstrate open communication, obedience, and accountability, as well as mercy and forgiveness.

A personal, active faith in God
We desire that each individual have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We are committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment that will encourage spiritual growth of students and staff in their personal walk with Christ.

A life-long love for intellectual and cultural development
We value excellence in education, development, and maturation of the whole person. We desire that students will love and pursue truth, recognize beauty in all its forms, live virtuously, think critically and problem solve logically, read insightfully, write incisively, speak persuasively, and be physically fit.

An awareness and cultivation of individual giftedness
We aspire to encourage personal growth and to provide opportunities for every student to discover and develop their unique gifts in an atmosphere of wise freedom.

The building of community
We believe that God ultimately holds parents responsible for the education of their children. We seek to glorify God by partnering with Christian families and churches in educating future generations through Christ-centered training, application, and example. Therefore, we believe that CSCS holds a sacred trust to mold the lives of students in partnership with the home, church and Holy Spirit, all teaching the child from a Christian biblical perspective.

An awareness and appreciation of society which impels action
We desire to prepare our students to be servant leaders in the world around them. This leadership emphasizes humility over intimidation, listening over pontification, modeling behavior over commanding it, and responsible citizenship. As practicing servant leaders, we desire that students be equipped with the moral strength, the spiritual discernment, and the academic integrity to impact society through responsible, effective Christian living.

  History

From its beginnings Colorado Springs Christian Schools has been blessed by God in many ways. The founder, Jim Wright, was committed to the vision for a Christian school in Colorado Springs. He and others saw the value and importance of having "Bible-believing, Christ honoring teachers using curriculum that honored Biblical principles." To this day Jim Wright prays regularly that God continues to bless the ministry that was started thirty-nine years ago.

Timeline of CSCS

1960's

1969:  Five men saw the need for an evangelical Christian school in Colorado Springs and began to pray on a regular basis about it. This attempt to start CSCS met with failure. The major problems were a lack of students and the potential administrator changed his mind and moved out of town.

1970's

1971:  CSCS was founded. The school started with an administrator, 13 teachers, 157 students, school desks and a rented church building in which to start. The original school board was made up of Jim Wright, a Christian worker, Mike Tucker, pastor of Temple Baptist Church, Mert Hull, a building contractor, Jack Hardwick, a staff member of the Christian Home for Children, and Ron Bennett, a social worker and counselor. Eldon Daniel, who moved from Monte Vista, Colorado, served as the first principal. Tuition costs for the new school were $40.00 per month. A reduced rate was given for second and third children in a family. Student textbook fees were charged to the families. Teacher salaries came from what was collected from tuition. The maximum salary was paid on a basis of sufficient tuition income. Each teacher salary would be reduced a percentage if there was not sufficient tuition received.

1972:  The first graduating class was made up of 6 seniors.

1978:  Temple Baptist Church changed its name to Pulpit Rock Church and moved into their new building on 301 Austin Bluffs Parkway. They assumed responsibility for the school, making it one of their ministries. The new facility had 38,000 square feet. Five modular buildings were added to the east side of the property to house the elementary school.

1980's

1985:  The Ronald and Sandra Lea Pinello Memorial Fieldhouse was built on Mallow Road. CSCS separated from Pulpit Rock Church on July 1, 1988 and became an independent school again. It had 120 different churches represented in its constituency and had a total enrollment for the 1988-89 school year of 815 students.

1990's

1993: Land was purchased on Weber Street for the elementary school and 10 modular buildings were placed on the property. Construction on the new high school, which was to be attached to the Fieldhouse, began in January of 1993. It was completed in August, 1993. The High School building was dedicated on November 1, 1993. At the time of the 1993 dedication the school had 1400 students, 60 teachers, and 125 full and part-time employees.

The Colorado Springs Christian Schools was housed in various rented facilities throughout the years of its growth. Many churches opened their doors to share facilities with CSCS prior to its present location. Some of the buildings were: Temple Baptist Church, Pulpit Rock Church, Village Christian Church, Northside Baptist Church, the present UCCS Alumni House on Austin Bluffs Parkway, the buildings of Bellevue Baptist Church, Aldersgate Methodist Church, Hancock Dry Cleaners, Roswell Community Church, and Cragmor Christian Reformed Church.

1994:  The preschool was built on the Weber street property. This preschool would later be the foundation for the current Handprints preschools.

1996:  In the fall CSCS celebrated its Silver Anniversary, being 25 years old. The Middle School was the last school located on the property of Pulpit Rock Church. Safety had become a real issue as students had to cross Mallow Road for lunch and P.E. each day. A new middle school was built, being attached to the high school and then dedicated in 1999.

2000's

2003:  Land was given to the school for an athletic practice field. It was dedicated and put into use by athletic teams and P.E. classes. In addition, CSCS opened its Woodland Park Campus in the High View Baptist Church with 30 students. Also, CSCS opened its East campus. It stayed open for five years and was an outgrowth of Handprints. For two years it was housed in Church for All Nations for grades K-1, and for the last three years Woodmen Valley Chapel rented out their Woodmen Heights campus to the school and increased to fourth grade.

2005:  The 50,000 square feet Rocky Mountain Motor Works building in Woodland Park was purchased and became the permanent campus for WPCSCS for grades K-8.
