Athletic
Opportunities
A variety of athletic activities are available to students at the
elementary level. CSCS runs some programs independently.
Others are organized through the Christian Schools Athletic League (CSAL),
the Colorado Springs Park and Recreation Department, or the YMCA. There is a participation fee of $60 per player,
$30 for CSCS and $30 for CSAL, payable in two separate checks.
Any student participating in a school sport must have a physical
signed by a doctor or nurse practitioner prior to the first day of
practice. If there is a chance your child will participate in a sport,
you might want to obtain your sports physical early to avoid delays
later. Sports physical forms can be obtained from the school office.
The sports for elementary students
include:
Baseball/Softball/T-ball: Girls and boys play separately except in T-ball. These programs
are run through the Colorado Springs Park and Recreation Department.
Teams can be organized for any elementary age if coaches are available.
Fees may vary.
Basketball: Girls and boys play separately. Fifth graders play on CSCS
teams within the Christian Schools Athletic League. We encourage
third and fourth grade girls and boys to play in the YMCA program.
The basketball season normally runs from January through February.
Soccer:
Girls and boys in 5th grade may play on CSCS teams within the Christian
Schools Athletic League. The boys play in the fall and the girls
play in the spring. Many younger children participate in soccer
through local leagues.
Track: Practice
begins in mid-April for this one day event in May. Track is offered to
boys and girls in grades 1 - 5.
Volleyball:
Girls in 5th grade may play volleyball in the Christian Schools Athletic
League. That league normally plays in September and October.
There are also special volleyball clinics for younger girls during the
year.
Wrestling:
Boys in grades 1 - 5 may participate in the wrestling program. CSCS
competes in the Christian Schools Athletic League. The wrestling
season begins in early March and runs through mid-April.
