Bible Days:
These give students opportunities to focus on specific Bible topics. Those topics include character traits and Books of the Bible.  Awards are presented for excellent achievement in each area.

Science Day: Classes are cancelled for one day in February to allow for 30+ speakers to enlighten children on a variety of science topics.  Each grade level selects their topics.  In addition, each child does a small project to share with the class during Science Day.  Don't miss this one!

Arts Day: Sponsored by the CSCS Elementary PTO, Arts Day is a K - 5 event at the elementary main and east campuses that immerses students in creative expression and exposes them to a variety of fine arts. All academics and specials are cancelled for the day, and different arts-related activities take place in each classroom. Each grade level participates in 4 classes. During Arts Day at the main campus, there are a total of 24 classes (4 for each grade level). This year's classes include: collage, rain sticks, sock puppets, watercolor, boomerangs, oil pastel, mosaics, weaving, beading, decoupage, cake decorating, origami, clay sculpture, tile painting, candle making, sewing, silk painting, leather stamping, soap making, mask making, tie-dye and magic. For more information or to volunteer, please contact the Arts Day Coordinator for your campus.

Music Programs: Students will normally present two music programs per year for parents.  Because of the size of the elementary school, there will rarely be programs involving all K-5 students at one time.  It will be more common to have programs that are presented by two or three grade levels at a time.

The format of the music programs may vary from grade to grade.  Some are held during the school day and are intended to demonstrate specific curricular objectives rather than to entertain.  Parents are invited to these events.

Honor Choir: Fourth and fifth graders have an opportunity to sing in the Honor Choir.   This group practices before or after school and sings for various school and community groups.

Field Trips: Each teacher arranges field trips for his/her own class throughout the year.  During the school year, field trips may include trips to the Cave of the Winds and the Cliff Dwellings, The Pioneer Museum, The Denver Children's Museum, and many others.  Field trips are intended to enhance the learning experience and often tie in with a current subject lesson at school.

Colorado Mathematics League Contest: Fifth graders will compete in a math contest sponsored by the Colorado Mathematics League.  The contest is held on the second Tuesday of March.  The statewide competition recognizes both individual and school achievement in math.

Speech Meet: CSCS conducts a speech meet for students in grades 1-5.  Classroom competitions are held to determine the finalist in each grade level.  Finalists from each classroom then compete on the day of the Speech Meet in several categories.

Spelling Bee: Grade level Spelling Bees are held each year in grades 1-5.   Classroom winners are selected through individual Spelling Bees.  The top spellers from those competitions will participate in the grade level Spelling Bee.

Field Day
is a popular end-of-year activity.  Students compete in a variety of games and relay events.
